2008 Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

The 2008 Mazis-Chambertin is a beguiling, inward wine layered with sensual dark fruit, mocha, minerals and sweet spices. Open and accessible, the 2008 Mazis impresses for its fabulous balance and multi-dimensional, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. The house style at Harmand-Geoffroy favors a rich, concentrated expression of fruit. Most of the 2009s were bottled in January 2011. I also had a chance to taste a selection of 2008s, which I generally think are superior to the 2009s here. The estate‰۪s approach seems better balanced by the freshness and verve of that year. (AG)
