2013 Vincent Girardin Pommard 1er Cru "Epenots"

(This soil features a lot of calcaire, in addition to red clay): Medium red. Strong acidulated fruits dominate the nose: redcurrant and framboise complicated by licorice and soil tones. Seems almost Volnay-like in its aromatic profile, perhaps due to the air flow through its combe. Juicy, savory and rather youthfully imploded today, in a distinctly dry, saline style, with notes of pepper, herbs and minerals currently holding the upper hand over the wine's fruit component. This will need time in bottle to gain in sweetness and texture. Tannins are a bit dusty and edgy. (ST)
