2013 Stolpman Ballard Canyon Grenache

The medium-bodied, sweetly fruited, and perfumed 2013 Grenache Ballard Canyon has lots of kirsch, wild strawberry, dried spice and chalky minerality to go with a taut, energetic and surprisingly structured feel on the palate. While the tannin stuck out right on opening, this came together nicely with time in the glass and I love its overall balance. Made in the more pretty, mid-weight California style, give this a year in the cellar and it should impress over the following 5-6 years. (JD)
