2013 Raats "Old Vine" Chenin Blanc Stellenbosch

(from vines more than 40 years of age; the portion of this wine from granite soil was made in stainless steel while the sandstone part was fermented in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new): Pale, bright yellow-gold. Wild herbs, pineapple and brown spices on the nose, plus a whiff of stone. Very rich and pliant but fresh, conveying a subtle sweetness to its complex flavors of pineapple, lemongrass, ginger and toast. Finishes persistent and lively, with good length and a light touch. (ST)
