2013 Poujeaux, Moulis

The 2013 Poujeaux does a great job of capturing the best this tricky vintage had to offer. Black cherries, plums, tobacco, smoke, violets and spices all lift out of the glass in a M̩doc that is distinctly Pinot-like in its perfumed, expressive aromatics and mid-weight structure. Although atypical, there is little doubt the 2013 Poujeaux is quite pretty. A second sample tasted a few days later showed a bit more flesh and overall resonance. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, with no Cabernet Franc in this vintage. The crop is down a whopping 50%. (AG)
