2013 Futo Proprietary Red He-Li-An-Thus

This wine is made from purchased grapes in the Soda Canyon and Atlas Peak region, from white tufa volcanic-laced soils, is the He-Li-An-Thus, which means sunflower. The 2013 Proprietary Red He-Li-An-Thus is a 508-case blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc from a much cooler area than Futo‰۪s other vineyards. Coming from near the Roy Estate in Soda Canyon, the wine offers notes of blueberry, black raspberry, licorice and forest floor, and has a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and sweet, ripe tannins. It is a beauty and, like so many 2013s, has a certain restrained character, but super-concentration. (RP)
