2012 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend

The 2012 Rothwell Hyde is one of the better vintages of this wine I have tasted. Dark, sumptuous and layered, the 2012 is quite dark, which suggests most of the fruit is from Howell Mountain. Plum, black cherry, spice and new leather meld into the supple, inviting finish. None of the Abreu wines could ever be described as inexpensive, but 2012 Rothwell is a fabulous wine for the money by Napa Valley standards. Tasted last after all the 2012s, 2013s and 2014s, the 2012 Rothwell Hyde more than holds its own. (AG)
