Raphet's old vines 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St.-Jacques is as usual a standout in the context of his portfolio. Herbal and brown spice pungency accents lightly-cooked red fruits and beef marrow, resulting in a rather mincemeat-like overall impression. While only modest in weight, this packs plenty of flavor and points in the direction of future textural allure. Ginger, salt, marjoram, Latakia tobacco and lemon oil add to the impact of a long finish. This should be worth following for at least the next 8-10 years. (DS)
